Ringland or Robinson

Conservatives and Unionists candidate Trevor Ringland has urged constituents in East Belfast to vote for change in an inspiring speech at Strandtown Hall. During a canvass entitled, 'Ringland or Robinson' Trevor said that East Belfast had been failed by Peter Robinson and the DUP - an MP and Party who consistently pursued power without principle.

Speaking at the event Trevor said; "I am proud of East Belfast. Walk around East Belfast and you see what Conservatives and Unionists mean by 'the big society' Families choose to live here. Even in a time of recession, smaller retailers serve the local community."

"We have schools with strong relationships in the local community. Schools, of all kinds, with good leaders that seek to bring the best out of our children, in which we all take pride."

"Then there is the patchwork of community organisations, residents groups, churches, PTAs all again showing the leadership necessary to bring out the best in our society. Undertaking quiet, but vital work of building up the life of our community.

"The people of East Belfast have a long and proud history of contributing to the wider life of our society in Northern Ireland. The cranes of Harland and Wolff - The skills of Shorts in the past and now Bombardier - The memory of C.S. Lewis - The music of Van Morrison, or the sporting talent of George Best -The crowds at the Oval and Ravenhill."

"Today, it remains the same. In our public services - hospitals, schools or government departments. In businesses, large and small. You find the people of East Belfast all working to bring out the best of the people here.

Working for a prosperous Northern Ireland for all, at ease with itself.

Yes, there are challenges. The challenges faced by inner city neighbourhoods that have been too long abandoned and neglected. Children left to underperform at school. The blight of sectarianism continuing to scar some communities."

"It is because of all of this - The values, the heritage, the successes, the ongoing challenges that I want to represent the people of East Belfast in Parliament. I want the people of East Belfast to have a voice in Parliament. A full-time voice. Representing their interests, speaking up for their values.

I want the people of East Belfast to have a voice in Parliament that faithfully represents the integrity and decency of the people of this constituency. That unfortunately, has not been the case of late. This seat does not belong to Peter Robinson. It belongs to the people of this constituency. To the people of East Belfast.

This seat is not the property of a party committed to family dynasties.

The party of cosy relationships with handpicked developers.

Or to the party that has consistently pursued power without principle.

This seat belongs to the people of East Belfast.

Anyone who has walked the streets of East Belfast canvassing during this campaign will have heard one issue raised again and again. They have lost faith in a politics that has failed to bring out the best in the people of East Belfast and Northern Ireland. On the doorsteps of this constituency we have heard the anger and shame of the people of East Belfast.

"Anger and shame over the £30,000 pounds of taxpayers' money spent on food."

"Anger and shame at a MP who boasts about polishing his halo."

Anger and shame at a MP who arrogantly refuses to accept that he has done anything wrong.

"East Belfast deserves better. Northern Ireland deserves better."

"Politicians, who will work for the benefit of the people and who do have the ability to deliver what the people want a peaceful and prosperous Northern Ireland for all, at peace with itself inside a United Kingdom for all and with good working relations with those with whom we share this Island."

"It is about a Unionism that is proud of the values that it stands for and challenges the twin cancers of sectarianism and anti- British or Irish racism that have caused so much tragedy in our society, rather than promotes them."

"On Thursday, the people of East Belfast get their opportunity to have their voice heard."

I know that very many have been disgusted by the revelations. I know that very many feel like giving up on politics. I ask them not to."

"I ask them to ensure their voice is heard."

"I ask them to send out a message that this seat is their seat. It does not belong to any political party. Or any political dynasty. It belongs to the people of East Belfast."

"And the people of East Belfast know it is time for change. Time to ensure that their values and their interests are truly represented in Parliament. A vote for any other candidate on 6th May is a vote to keep Peter Robinson in power. It is, frankly, a wasted vote.

"Peter Robinson has spent this election campaign attacking the Conservatives and Unionists."

"Because the Conservatives and Unionists are the force for change."

"In East Belfast and right across Northern Ireland. On 6th May vote for change in Easter Belfast. Vote Trevor Ringland, Conservatives and Unionists.
