DUP hypocrisy on 'cuts' knows no bounds

Fred Cobain MLA, Conservatives and Unionists North Belfast candidate, has said that Peter Robinson's latest diatribe clearly shows that the "hypocrisy, distortions and opportunism of the DUP knows no boundaries".

"The first paragraph in the economy section of their manifesto states that they want to 'reign (sic) in public spending' and that 'spending reductions must be pursued'.

"They go on to say that 'A key priority of the next Government must be reducing debt.'

"In the same section they back Conservative policy by supporting 'a reduction in stamp duty for first time buyers and oppose raising National Insurance'.

"So perhaps Peter Robinson and his colleagues could now answer the following questions.

Which areas of public spending do the DUP believe need to be reined in and which spending reductions must be pursued?

What steps should the next Government take to reduce debt?

How would the DUP pay for a reduction in stamp duty for first time buyers and their opposition to increases in National Insurance?

"Until Peter Robinson and his colleagues give straight answers to how they would fulfil these manifesto commitments the only conclusion is that they are trying to take the people of Northern Ireland for fools.

"The reality is that the DUP can say what they want. Their manifesto is an uncosted wish list that will never be implemented for the simple reason that they will never be part of a UK Government.

"They are standing at this election to be a tiny opposition party at Westminster.

"Conservatives and Unionists are standing to be part of the UK Government at the heart of the Union."
