DUP failing to protect NHS

Mike Nesbitt Conservatives and Unionists candidate for Strangford has condemned the DUP for cutting the Health Service in Northern Ireland and has challenged them to support the Conservatives and Unionists' pledge to protect the NHS.

In a statement Mike said:

"I listen to the DUP stir up fear about cuts for Northern Ireland and I am galled by their hypocrisy. Sammy Wilson has just cut £370m out of Northern Ireland's budget this year.

"He has just cut £113m from health and social services. The only party at the Executive to vote against these cuts was the UUP. I share Michael McGimpsey's disgust.

"Conservatives and Unionists recognise that we need to get our national debt under control -we are responsible politicians - however, we also believe that health and social services should be protected.

Conservatives and Unionists support increased health spending year on year in Northern Ireland in line with what is proposed in England by Conservatives.

The contrast with the DUP is clear - the DUP has cut health to fill the black hole in Sammy Wilson's budget; a black hole created by DUP financial mismanagement.

"I challenge the DUP to come out and support the Conservatives and Unionists pledge to protect the NHS."
